Longtime Times Review Media Group staffer Joe Werkmeister has been named the editor of the Riverhead News-Review and The Suffolk Times.

Mr. Werkmeister, who joined the Times Review staff as a sports reporter in 2006, most recently served as the managing editor of both papers. He has also worked as a web editor and sports editor for the company.

“We’re very excited that Joe has agreed to fill our editor position,” said Times Review executive editor Grant Parpan. “He’s one of the hardest working, most talented journalists I’ve ever had the pleasure of working alongside. He understands how to put together award-winning newspapers and websites and will be a great fit in his new role.”

A graduate of St. Bonaventure University, Mr. Werkmeister has won more than a dozen awards from the New York Press Association during his tenure at Times Review, including twice being named Sports Writer of the Year.

Mr. Werkmeister succeeds former editor Joseph Pinciaro, who recently relocated to his native Massachusetts.

Another longtime Times Review staffer, Jen Nuzzo, will take over as managing editor after having previously served as the company’s web editor.

A graduate of the Stony Brook University School of Journalism, Ms. Nuzzo joined the Times Review staff as a reporter in 2010. The following year she was named Cub Reporter of the Year by the Press Club of Long Island.

“These two moves are in line with our philosophy of looking to promote from within our own company whenever possible,” said Times Review publisher Andrew Olsen. “Both of these editors began their careers with our company and we’re grateful to see them continue in new roles.”

Five Times Review editors previously served as reporters for the company, including Mr. Parpan, Shelter Island Reporter editor Ambrose Clancy and Vera Chinese, editor of northforker.com.

The company also hired two more staffers this spring, including veteran East End journalist Annette Hinkle, who joined the staff of the Shelter Island Reporter as community editor in March. She previously served as the associate editor of the Sag Harbor Express for nearly 15 years.

Stony Brook University School of Journalism graduate Krysten Massa is the most recent addition to the Times Review staff, working as a reporter for both the News-Review and The Suffolk Times. Ms. Massa joined the staff immediately following her graduation last month. While at Stony Brook, she served as the multimedia editor of The Statesman, a campus newspaper and website.
