Blog: Board to discuss extending sewer district to Southampton Town

At its work session on Thursday, the Riverhead Town Board is expected to discuss Southampton Town’s request that Riverhead reserve 30,000 gallons per day of sewer district capacity for Riverside, the Southampton Town hamlet to the immediate south of Riverhead. Southampton officials are in the midst of a project to revitalize Riverside, considered one of the most economically distressed areas in Suffolk County, but say they can’t do so without upgraded sewage treatment in the area, which has mostly cesspools now.

Also on the agenda is a discussion on helicopter noise, a discussion on a special permit application for The Cage, an indoor batting cage and instruction facility on Pulaski Street, and a discussion on insurance requirements for the upcoming “Alive on 25” concerts in July and August.

The work session starts at 10:30 a.m. and News-Review reporter Tim Gannon will be live blogging. Click below to follow or comment.
