Aquebogue-Jamesport News: ‘Wine and Noses, North Fork’ event

Johanna and I and her assistance dog, Rae, have finally arrived home from our monthlong cross-country journey. We met a lot of wonderful people and witnessed the beauty of the United States. It was a beautiful trip, but there’s no place like home on the North Fork in our beloved home in Jamesport.

Jamesport Fire Department’s 61st annual bazaar and fundraiser kicked off last night (Wednesday) with a parade on Main Road in Jamesport. I hope you were able to join in on the fun. The bazaar continues today, July 14, through Saturday, July 16, from 4 p.m. to midnight. Fireworks can be seen on the 16th at 10 p.m. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit with friends and family while supporting our local fire department.

The Jamesport-South Jamesport Civic Association will hold a membership meeting — with invitations to all our neighbors and friends — Sunday, July 17, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Finnegan’s Wake on 3rd Street in South Jamesport. Bring a cold plate or finger foods to share. The civic association has a full agenda and will focus on internal organizing and quality-of-life issues. For a detailed agenda, or to add items to the agenda, email Angela De Vito at [email protected].

We are now selling tickets for our Canine Companions for Independence fundraiser entitled “Wine and Noses, North Fork,” to be held Saturday, Aug. 6, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Castello di Borghese Vineyards. As many of you know, CCI has quite a presence on the North Fork. This wonderful organization pairs highly trained assistance dogs with people with disabilities. Please join us in welcoming our newest CCI puppy, Vinny, a lab/golden cross, to the North Fork. My husband and I and Johanna will be raising Vinny for the next 18 months. You can meet him and other pups and graduate dogs at the fundraiser. Tickets are $75 and include a glass of wine, gourmet food, live music and CCI demonstrations. Email me for tickets, or purchase them online at cci.org/2016NFWine. If you would like to donate a basket or help publicize the event, please email me at [email protected].

Once again, save the date, Sunday, Aug. 28, for Jamesport Fire Department’s 18th annual Sound to Bay 10K/5K Run. If you’re an amateur like me then you know it’s time to MOVE to train. I don’t really run anymore but I like to support the run with my fast-paced walk and light jog. Join me and your neighbors, as well as visitors from all over the U.S., for this great local run. For more information and to sign up, visit jfd10krun.com.

I hope to see some of you at JFD’s annual bazaar this weekend. Have a great week!
