Calverton News: Chicken BBQ in Baiting Hollow

It’s beginning to feel a lot like summer. It’s too hot for me, but we need a little bit of this heat to bring on the tomatoes. The corn is awesome. I hope you’re enjoying some local fresh veggies. Please support the local farm stands. It’s very appreciated.

The Fourth of July weekend at Riverhead Raceway was simply amazing. Not only did Kyle Soper win again in the Modified division, Scott Kulesa won his first race of the year in the Late Model division. What’s even more exciting is Jaime, the kids and I were all there to see it. Congratulations to both of you guys! I’m sure you’ll continue to keep us very entertained in the upcoming weeks at the track.

A surprise party for Jan Niewadomski, whose birthday is June 27, was held at his son Jimmy’s and daughter-in-law Laura’s house. About 30 people attended and all had a really great time. Happy birthday, Jan, from all who know you and love you.

My granddaughter, Julia, had her dance recital a few weeks ago. I’ve got to tell you that Renee DeChalus is an awesome dance instructor. She’s been teaching dance since my daughter, Jamie, was a little girl. It was a great production and we are already looking forward to next year’s! Thank you so much, Renee, for teaching this beautiful art.

Baiting Hollow Congregational Church’s annual chicken barbecue will be held Aug. 6. It’s the most awesome chicken barbecue you could imagine. For tickets, call 516-446-9101 or stop by the church thrift store on Sound Avenue on Thursdays and Saturdays. Do go; it’s amazing!

Belated happy birthday to Stanley Lojko, who I’m sure had a pretty good time celebrating this past weekend; Deb Zilnicki, who celebrated July 12; and Barbara Youngs, who also celebrated on the 12th! I hope you all had a great day.

My uncle Larry Taylor recently celebrated his 85th birthday at a party held in his honor. All had a really great time. Barbara Youngs and her husband traveled from Wisconsin and made the event even more special. I truly enjoyed catching up with her, as I haven’t seen her in years. Happy birthday, Uncle Larry!

That’s all for this week. Enjoy summer, go to the beach and keep cool. Be safe, take care and I’ll talk to you next time. Bye.
