Riverhead Town police arrested a New Hyde Park man on a sexual abuse charge after he allegedly made inappropriate contact with a girl under the age of 14 at Splish Splash in Calverton last week.

Kashmir Singh, 30, faces up to a year in jail and possible deportation if convicted of the charge of second-degree sexual abuse, Riverhead Justice Allen Smith said in court Wednesday during the arraignment.

Mr. Singh allegedly grabbed the victim’s breasts, court records show. The incident took place last Thursday about 2:14 p.m. when Mr. Singh “came in contact with a person less than 14 years old in an inappropriate manner,” according to a criminal complaint read in court.

The complaint said the incident occurred in the Kahuna Bay Wave Pool.

At the request of assistant district attorney Patrick Fedun, Justice Smith issued an order of protection to Mr. Singh ordering he keep away from the victim.

Mr. Singh did not have an attorney and was given two weeks to find one. A telephone translator was used during the court appearance because Mr. Singh only spoke Punjabi.

Second-degree sexual abuse is a misdemeanor.

Representatives of Splish Splash could not immediately be reached for comment.
