Southampton Blotter: Driver stops at police scene, arrested for DWI

Southampton Town police arrested a Riverhead man for allegedly stealing in Hampton Bays last Monday.

Birtis Exum, 48, reportedly stole a scanner from Wild By Nature around 11:56 p.m. The officer who reported to the scene spoke to a store manager, who provided a description of the suspect.

Mr. Exum allegedly removed a scanner ordering device that resembled an iPod from the front customer service counter and walked out the front door, police said. Mr. Exum was later found at his Flanders Road home with the item, officials said.

He was charged with petit larceny, a misdemeanor.

• New York State police arrested a Manorville woman for driving while intoxicated in Riverhead last Wednesday.

Nicole Cerulli, 28, stopped her car at a police crime scene on Raynor Avenue, where she was found to be intoxicated, officials said. She was arrested for aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.

• New York State police arrested an East Hampton man for drunken driving in Flanders Saturday.

Wilmer Patino, 38, was stopped for vehicle and traffic violations when police determined he was intoxicated, officials said. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.

• Southampton Town police arrested a Riverhead man for resisting arrest in Hampton Bays last Wednesday. Ruben Alvarez Ortiz, 35, was charged with resisting arrest, a misdemeanor, and two violations.

• A Flanders man was arrested for circumventing a required interlock device in Water Mill last Wednesday, police said.

Quilder Rodriquez Solis, 27, was stopped near Cobb Road and Little Cobb Road around 1 p.m. for driving a commercial vehicle weighing over 10,000 pounds on a residential street when a DMV check showed he had a revoked license due to a previous DWI conviction and was driving without a required interlock device, officials said. He was charged with circumventing an interlock device and second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, both misdemeanors, and two traffic violations.

• Southampton Town police arrested a Flanders man for driving with a suspended license in Northampton Friday.

Diego Tojin, 32, was stopped after police noticed he was driving a truck with unsecured gas containers in the cargo area. Police determined he had a suspended driver’s license, expired inspection, fractured windshield and no fire extinguisher, officials said. He was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, a misdemeanor, and numerous traffic violations.

• A Quogue woman was arrested for driving with a suspended license in Riverside Friday.

Bianca Spano, 22, was reportedly involved in a car accident around 4:45 p.m. near the traffic circle at Peconic Avenue. During an investigation of the accident, which had no reported injuries, police learned Ms. Spano had a suspended license, officials said. She was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, and a traffic violation.

• Police arrested a Flanders man who was wanted on a bench warrant for driving with a suspended license in Riverside Sunday.

Colin Vanvliet, 21, was stopped near Center and Nugent Drives around 8:25 p.m. due to traffic violations when police learned he had an active bench warrant for failing to appear at a June court date, officials said. He was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, and for the bench warrant.

In March, Mr. Vanvliet was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance after police found a stun gun inside a car he shared with three others, the News-Review previously reported.

• A Flanders woman reportedly had $2,000 stolen from her bank account by an acquaintance, officials said. No arrest has been made at this time.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
