A Calverton man has been arrested on felony assault and weapons charges in connection with the July 3 shooting at a Calverton apartment complex, Suffolk County police confirmed Thursday.

Demetris Brown, 25, was arrested July 14 and charged with shooting two men in the parking lot outside Calverton Hills around 2 a.m., police said.

He pleaded not guilty on July 27 and is being held on $200,000 cash bail or $400,000 bond, according to police and a district attorney spokesman.

Mr. Brown faces charges of first- and second-degree assault, as well as second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, according to a grand jury indictment. He is due back in court Sept. 6.

One 35-year-old victim, William McFarland, was shot in the chest, abdomen and wrist, officials said. The second victim, Reggie Moore, 22, was shot in the abdomen.

Police said the first victim was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, while the second was taken by car to Peconic Bay Medical Center and later transferred to a hospital in Bay Shore.

Both were listed in stable condition after the shooting and police had no update on their conditions Thursday.
