Calverton news: Kent offers ‘Primp Your Pit’ program

OK, enough of this heat already, Mother Nature. A couple of days is fine but a couple of weeks is a little too much. However, the tomatoes are in full gear, as well as peppers, watermelons and cantaloupe. Enjoy.

Baiting Hollow Congregational Church’s annual chicken barbecue will be held Saturday, Aug. 6. Chicken, corn, salads and watermelon are just some of the delicious items on the menu. If you would like tickets, call 516-446-9101 or stop by the church thrift store on Thursdays and Saturdays.

During August, Kent Animal Shelter will be sponsoring “Primp Your Pit,” a spay/neuter clinic for all Long Island residents who own pit bull terrier-type dogs. The cost is $20 and includes a free nail trim. Puppies can be spayed/neutered as young as eight to 10 weeks old. Doing so may improve your dog’s behavior and health.

Belated happy birthday to Trisha Smith, who celebrated her 30th on July 21, from all your family and friends. Belated birthday wishes also go out to George Knez, who celebrated July 23. Your wife, daughter, and family and friends all hope you had a great day.

Happy birthday to my grandson, Aiden, who will turn 3 today, July 28. We had an awesome party for Aiden on Sunday. It included lots of food, a wonderful cake, and many water fights. It was a perfect day. Happy birthday, my little friend. Gramma Amma loves you lots. Hugs and kisses from Mommy, Daddy, your sister, Julia, and Auntie Jamie.

That’s all for now. Try to stay cool! Keep an eye on your pets, as they need our help staying cool. And check on your elderly neighbors and friends. Take care, be safe, and I’ll talk to you next time. Bye.
