Patricia Ann Hansen of South Jamesport, formerly of Wantagh, died Aug. 1, 2016, of cancer at the age of 80.

She was born June 26, 1936, in Mineola, was raised in West Hempstead and was the daughter of the late Walter and Dorothy Messer and sister of the late James Messer.

A graduate of West Hempstead High School, Pat worked in Manhattan as a secretary for the Federal Bureau of Investigation for a time and also spent many years as a secretary at Summit Lane Elementary School in Levittown. She loved her coworkers and her time there.

An avid “homemaker” she spent hours knitting and making blankets and handicrafts for her many, many friends. She was a member of the “Homemakers” in South Jamesport and was also very active in West Hempstead at The Lutheran Church of the Epiphany, where she taught Sunday school. Later she was an active member of Advent Lutheran Church in Mattituck.

She loved the North Fork, especially her home in South Jamesport, where her family had spent many years. It was always open to her friends and family. Always proud and excited about the accomplishments and talents of her sons and her friends, it was, in fact, she who was the accomplished and extraordinary one.

A loving and devoted friend, wife and mother, she was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Roy Chester Hansen, and is survived by sons, Bruce John Hansen of Arlington, Texas, and Glen Joseph Hansen. All who knew her loved and responded to her lifelong optimism and loving care.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at Advent Lutheran Church. The Rev. George Summers will officiate.

DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home is assisting the family.
