Aquebogue-Jamesport news: Big yard sale coming up

I received some sad news from Angela DeVito: Longtime South Jamesport resident and community member Patricia Hansen passed away Aug. 1. She spent her youth here in the summer and moved here permanently after retiring. A member of the Jamesport-South Jamesport Civic Association for over 30 years, Pat and her family added much to our community’s history. At one time the family property housed the historic South Jamesport Rod and Gun Club. A memorial service is set for Saturday, Aug. 13, at 1 p.m. at Advent Lutheran Church, 200 Legion Ave., Mattituck. Our condolences to the Hansen family.

South Jamesport resident Elizabeth Nehls, another active member of the civic association, opened an exhibition of her paintings Aug. 5 at Riverhead Free Library’s Elizabeth Fox Overton Gallery (lower level). The exhibit will run through Sept. 28. Take a moment from your busy schedule to view this exhibit.

Mark your calendar for the civic association’s giant yard sale Saturday, Aug. 27, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine. The Connor family has graciously provided their yard for the sale, at the northeast corner of Front and Point streets. Tables will be provided as well as space under a 20-by-20-foot tent. Donations of unwanted household items and/or furniture would be appreciated. Proceeds will help support the efforts of the civic association and will also help the Jamesport Meeting House build an ADA-compliant bathroom facility. Each item should be marked with a reasonable and attractive price and brought to the yard sale at 7:30 a.m. Bring a chair to sit by your goods; however, your presence at the sale is not required. If you can’t make it, call Angela DeVito at 631-722-2589. Any unsold goods will be donated to charity unless you instruct otherwise and are present to pick them up by 4 p.m.

Old Steeple Church in Aquebogue will host its annual Antique Show Saturday, Aug. 27, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Rain date is Sept. 3. Tickets are $6. For more information, contact Jean at 631-722-4131 or [email protected].

Don’t forget to sign up for Jamesport Fire Department’s 18th annual Sound to Bay 10K/5K Run. Races begin at 9 a.m. — the 10K at Iron Pier Beach and the 5K at South Jamesport Beach. For registration and information, visit https://jfd10krun.com/.

I’d like to let you know that due to my busy schedule I find it necessary to give up writing this column. If you are interested in writing the column, please email Lauren Sisson, senior associate editor at Times Review Media Group, at [email protected].

Finally, I’d like to wish my beautiful daughter Johanna a very happy 20th birthday this Sunday, Aug. 14. She is truly the reason I believe in miracles.
