Calverton News: Wines & Canines Walk/Run for Kent Animal Shelter

OK, I’ve had quite enough of this heat. I am very ready for fall. I want to see the leaves change colors, I want to smell wood smoke from fireplaces and wood stoves and I just want to be cool. Don’t scrunch your noses up like that. I see you.

When September decides to make an appearance, we will have something nice to look forward to: the annual Wines & Canines Walk/Run, which takes place Sunday, Sept. 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard. For $30 per person, you may go for a walk or run, take your canine friend on a tour of the vineyard and meet other pet families, all while raising money for our little buddies at Kent Animal Shelter. Please feel free to call Kent at 631-727-5731, as they will be more than happy to help you out. And let’s consider the cool weather coming and donate our old blankies and towels to keep our friends warm. Any little thing you can do is so appreciated, be it food, treats or warm, cuddly items.

Best of luck to everyone headed off to college — we know you guys will be great. And best of luck to our new little students, especially my grandchild, Julia, as she heads off to Riley Avenue Elementary School for kindergarten. Grandma Amma loves you so much, Julia, and I know you will be so happy there!

I had the privilege of going to Las Vegas to learn how to treat people with headaches. A few of us from Bach Grazina Orthodontics went, and what we learned was amazing. But I also had the pleasure of seeing my cousin Larry Taylor Jr. and Jacci, as they both live out there now. It was a great trip filled with knowledge and lots of fun!

The rain was amazing. I actually had four and a half inches at my house, but it was almost scary the way it fell. Jamie came home and we sloshed our way around Saturday afternoon, and did indeed have fun.

A very happy anniversary Aug. 26 to Helen and Henry Czaplonski of Calverton, who had a great party with family and friends. Helen and I met in the rainstorm and hit it off right away. So, my new friend, happy anniversary to you and many more!

Please submit any information you would like to appear in my next column by Thursday, Sept. 1, as I have an early deadline due to Labor Day.

That’s all for this week. Enjoy the rest of the sunny days in August, get that back-to-school shopping done and I will talk to you soon. Take care and be safe; bye.
