PSEG to begin improvement project across Riverhead
Beginning this month, PSEG Long Island will start work on a Federal Emergency Management Agency circuit reliability project that will pass through Riverhead and Brookhaven streets, according to a press release.
The project is set to improve the reliability of the electric grid for thousands of PSEG customers, according to the release.
“PSEG Long Island continues to work proactively in areas that would benefit from enhanced reliability work,” said PSEG Long Island vice president of transmission and distribution operations John O’Connell.
Work will be between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and no work will be done on major holidays, according to a representative from PSEG. To minimize interruptions there will be cones, signage and flagmen on the streets to keep traffic flowing.
Work on the project will take approximately five months and entails replacing existing wires, installing new and more durable poles and installing or replacing switching equipment to help reduce the number of customers affected by an outage, according to the release.
The following roads will be worked on by PSEG employees:
- Sound Avenue east of Edwards Avenue and west of Cross River Drive
- Edwards Avenue south of Route 25
- Riley Avenue between Edwards Avenue and Twomey Avenue
- Twomey Avenue south of Sound Avenue and North of Route 25
- Osborn Avenue south of Sound Avenue
- Mill Road north of Middle Road
- Roanoke Avenue south of Sound Avenue and North of Middle Road
- Route 25 (Main Road) between Howell Avenue and Washington Avenue
- Tuthills Lane between Route 25 and south of South Apollo Drive
- Randall Road from south of Frost Lane to North Country Road
- North Wading River Road between North Country Road and Little Flower Drive
- North Wading River Road from Dogwood Lane to west of Hulse Avenue
- Herricks Lane near Stroll Drive
- Peconic Bay Boulevard between Washington Avenue and South Jamesport Avenue
- South Jamesport Avenue between Peconic Bay Boulevard and Route 25 / Main Road
- Franklinville Road between Route 25 / Main Road and Route 25 / Main Road by-pass
- Route 25 / Main Road between Laurel Lake Road and Old Main Road
- Old Main Road between Route 25 / Main Road and Route 25 / Main Road by-pass
- Route 25 / Main Road between Old Main Road and Sigsbee Road
This project is funded through the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance Program, a program that was established to harden electrical distribution infrastructure against future storm damage and help restore power more quickly.
