Tom Kitz of C.K. Auto in Wading River wishes a happy 60th birthday to his friend John Broehm and a happy 32nd birthday to his son, Thomas Kitz Jr.

Happy anniversary to my Aunt Francie and Uncle Lawrence Sept. 8.

Belated happy birthday to Sandy Zicaro, who celebrated Aug. 31; Victoria Erick, her 24th, Sept. 1; my First Student colleague Dawn Riso, also on the 1st; and Matt Tuttle, Sept. 6.

Happy birthday to Kelly McLaren of First Student today, Sept. 8; John McNeil and Elizabeth Pagan, Sept. 10; and Maryann MacMillan, Sept. 20. Maryann shares the same birth date as my mother and her twin sister, Marie Vanderplate Newton and Hilda Vanderplate Tuttle.

Happy birthday and anniversary to all those who are here and those who are in heaven. Mom, I miss you and think of you every day.

Shoreham Fire. Co. No. 3 (Rocky Point Fire Department) will host its annual Megabucks Raffle party Saturday, Sept. 17, from 3 to 7 p.m. A $100 ticket admits two. One thousand tickets will be sold, with $65,000 in prizes. Music will be provided by The Hackensack Men and The Trenton Horns. Beer, wine, soda and food are included in this adults-only event (18 and over). Baskets of goods donated by local businesses will be up for grabs. Everyone always has a good time, win or lose. A shout-out goes to my friend Ray Strong, a fellow Rocky Point classmate and ex-captain of the fire department. Have a good time, Ray and Iris Strong. Tickets are on sale now outside the fire department on Route 25A in Shoreham.

Kevin Mann, former Global Awareness adviser at SWR high school and Hope Children’s Fund advocate, would like to remind everyone that the farmers market in Rocky Point is still in full swing. It’s held Sundays at 8 a.m. on Prince Road and Broadway. HCF will have a booth set up and there will be music by The Homegrown String Band (homegrownstringband.com). If you can’t attend, perhaps you could spread the word. The more who attend the greater chance items will be sold to help support HCF.

Shoreham-Wading River students have returned to school. I hope you enjoyed your first day and have enthusiasm for the days ahead. Good luck, kids, and a big shout-out to the wonderful teachers, administration and staff at SWR.
