Anthony J. Witek

Longtime Calverton resident Anthony J. “Tony” Witek died Sept. 13 at Stony Brook University Hospital. He was 92. 

He was born June 1, 1924, in Duryea, Pa.

Mr. Witek was a World War II veteran who fought in seven campaigns throughout North Africa and the European theater, including the Normandy Beach invasion. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Family members said he was a retired auto mechanic who loved gardening, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his family and friends, especially his children and grandchildren.

Mr. Witek is survived by his children, Patricia Fischetti and Anthony, Diane and Michael Witek; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The family received visitors Sept. 18 at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service took place Sept. 19 at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead. Interment was at Calverton National Cemetery.
