Aquebogue-Jamesport news: Meeting House, civic group plan yard sale

The Jamesport-South Jamesport Civic Association will hold a meeting Saturday, Sept. 24, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Jamesport Meeting House.

The civic association will also host a giant yard sale Saturday, Oct. 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the northeast corner of Front and Point streets. Those wishing to sell their goods are asked to bring their pre-priced items to the sale between 7:30 and 9 a.m. The sale will be held rain or shine. Proceeds will benefit both the Meeting House and the civic association. Unsold items can either be picked up and set aside for another event or discarded. A ‘Wines and Canines’ run/walk for homeless pets will be held Sunday, Sept. 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard. The event, which will be held rain or shine, is sponsored by Kent Animal Shelter. Featured will be live music, a prize auction, raffle, contests and more. Wine and food will be available for purchase and pets will be available for adoption. Dogs should be on a leash. $30 minimum donation per person; children 12 and under are free. Registration begins at 10 a.m.; walkers/runners may start anytime between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. This is not a timed race. Old Steeple Community Church welcomes “all creatures great and small” to its annual Celebration and Blessing of the Animals Saturday, Oct. 1, at 10 a.m. Make sure your animal friend is leashed or crated. There will be music, scripture and blessings. A freewill donation will be taken to benefit local animal shelters. The Rev. Janet Wright will preside. For more information, call 631-722-3070.

Save the date! The annual Riverhead 5K CROP (Community Response to Overcome Poverty) Walk will take place Sunday, Oct. 16, beginning at 2 p.m. (registration at 1 p.m.) at Riverhead United Methodist Church on East Main Street. Funds are raised by walkers requesting sponsors. Proceeds go toward Church World Service and local food pantries. Walkers move at a leisurely pace and there are refreshment volunteers along the way. There’s lots of time to socialize during the 5K! Those interested in walking are asked to call Liz Wines at 631-722-4241.

Aquebogue Elementary School’s Fall Arts and Crafts Fair will be held Saturday, Oct. 22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call the school at 631-369-6779 for more details.
