An abandoned Riverhead house — one of three located off a dirt road adjacent to the Dariland Ice Cream shop — burned to the ground early Saturday morning, town police said.
Riverhead police had responded to a call for a possible vehicle fire in the area of the ice cream shop shortly before 2 a.m., when it was determined to be a house fire, police said.
Riverhead Fire Department volunteers extinguished the fire, which was determined to have been caused by a fallen tree snapping live wires leading to the house, according to police.
No one was in the structure at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported, police said.
