Winifred Caprise Cannon

Winifred Caprise Cannon, a 45 year resident of Orient, died Jan. 8, 2017, at Masonicare in Newton, Conn. She was 91.

She was born Dec. 9, 1925, in New York City to Pauline (Zunth) and Emile Roth.

After receiving a degree in textile design from Pratt Institute in New York City, she was a colorist in the garment industry in New York City. She was also a devoted homemaker.

Winifred was a member of the Lions and Rotary clubs and enjoyed membership in women’s clubs over the years. She was also a member of the North Fork Country Club and a communicant of St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport.

An avid golfer and bridge player, she was a wonderful artist that painted murals, landscapes and portraits.

Prior to moving to the North Fork, she lived in East Setauket, Old Westbury and spent the winter months in Boynton Beach, Fla. until a few years ago.

Surviving are five children, Michael Caprise of Greenport, Susan Caprise Bonistali of Ridgefield, Conn., Ted Cannon of Hartford, Conn., Jack Cannon of Boca Raton, Fla. and Kerry Geiger Cannon of Manhasset and fourteen grandchildren, Jeffrey Bonistalli, Lauren Bonistalli, Joe Bonistalli, Chris Caprise, Robert Cannon IV, Patrick Cannon, Katherine Cannon, Colleen Cannon, Sean Cannon, Kyle Geiger, Kevin Geiger, Cade Cannon, Pierce Cannon and Cassidy Cannon. She was predeceased by husbands William Ritch, Michael Caprise Sr. and Robert Cannon Jr.; children Robert Cannon III and William Caprise and a grandson Garret Cannon.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 14 at St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport, officiated by Father Richard Hoerning. Interment took place at Orient Central Cemetery.

DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home assisted the family.
