Riverhead school superintendent releases statement on bus driver arrest

Riverhead school district superintendent Nancy Carney issued the following statement Thursday morning on the recent bus driver arrest.

The district has been made aware of the arrest of one of our bus drivers. The charges are deeply concerning to the district. The board intends to take formal action on this matter at its next board meeting. However, it should be noted that the characterization that appeared [online] that this was a raid at the district’s bus garage was in error. The police simply arrested the employee as he arrived for work on Thursday. It is our understanding that the arrest allegations have nothing to do with the District or its operations.
