A man was arrested on a drunken driving charge Thursday afternoon following a rollover crash in Aquebogue, police said.

William Anderson, 48, of Shelter Island was driving a Chevy utility truck westbound on Main Road around 3:40 p.m. when he crossed over the eastbound lane of traffic, according to a witness.

Doug Heath of Southold said he was able to pull Mr. Anderson from his vehicle after it overturned.

The truck hit several trees and overturned, eventually coming to a stop on its side after striking the front deck of a house across from the Vinland shopping center, Mr. Heath said.

“I’m just in shock that I saw something like that,” he said, adding he was driving immediately behind the truck.

Following the crash, Mr. Anderson’s dog escaped from the truck and was spotted about 15 minutes later roaming Main Road near Tuthills Lane.

Members of the Jamesport Fire Department assisted Riverhead police at the scene.
