Paul A. Gancarz

Paul A. Gancarz of Cutchogue died Jan. 17 at his home. He was 90.

He was born March 20, 1926, in Holyoke, Mass., to Walter and Anastasia (Komieczka) Gancarz.

On Sept. 4, 1949, he married Bertha Matwieczyk at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in Cutchogue.

Paul was a full-time house painter with his brother, Peter. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He also was a clammer, a farmer and loved lottery tickets and growing gladiolas and vegetables.

He is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Robert) VanBourgondien of Southold and Debra (Robert) Nowak of Bolivia, N.C.; six grandchildren, Brian (Alice) Nowak of Manorville, Kevin Nowak of Medford, Jaclyn (Andrew) Tralka of Maui, Hawaii, Betsy (Peter) Barraud of Baiting Hollow, Kimberly VanBourgondien and Cynthia VanBourgondien of Southold; and two great-grandsons, Samuel Paul Nowak of Manorville and Kayleb Robert Tralka of Maui, Hawaii. He was predeceased by his siblings, John, in 1956, Peter, in 1988, Josephine, in 1998, Bertha, in 2002, Stella, in 2011 and Tony.

The family received visitors Jan. 21 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. The Liturgy of Christian Burial followed at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church, officiated by Father Mariusz Gorazd. Interment took place at Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery in Cutchogue.
