Flanders news: Be on the lookout for runaway rabbits

Hello! I hope everyone stayed safe in the recent storms and is now enjoying a little warmer weather. I don’t think it will last long. I have a feeling Old Man Winter still has some snow and cold weather for us.

I would like to wish a very happy birthday to Jill Konkel from Jimmy, Erin, Taylor, Johnny, Ashley, Jaelynn and all of her other family and friends. Jill holds a special place in my heart, so I hope her birthday — and every day after — is filled with love and laughter.

There will be a Riverside Rediscovered meeting today, Thursday, Jan. 26, at 6:30 p.m. at Sarikopa. Call Siris or Angela at 631-591-3926 to let them know if you will attend so they have a head count. If you haven’t been to a meeting yet, please come down and see what’s planned for Riverside.

The Flanders, Riverside and Northampton Community Association will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at the David W. Crohan Community Center. FRNCA is working on a food truck festival and looking for ideas and recommendations from the community. Sounds like it would be a great time and a nice way to get to know more of our neighbors. If you have any ideas, come to the meeting or call Ron Fisher at 631-566-2204.

Ron is also looking for help taking down the Christmas lights and decorations at the Flanders Road/Route 105 intersection. If you’d like to help, please call him. He will make a list of volunteers and then call when he sets up a day and time.

I could use some help from anyone in the Flanders area. Two very dirty white rabbits have been running around in the area opposite the 7-Eleven, between the Rancho restaurant and the Garden Deli. They have been seen very close to the road. I have seen one under a car in the Rancho parking lot. There is concern they will be killed on Flanders Road. If you see them, please call the Southampton Animal Shelter at 631-728-PETS. We are hoping they can be caught and given a good home.

Thank you to all who have sent me emails. I appreciate all of your help sharing news and events with our friends and neighbors.
