Meeting with new Southampton police chief pushed back one week
Incoming Southampton Town Police Chief Steven Skrynecki’s scheduled meeting in Flanders Monday night has been rescheduled to Wednesday, March 29 at 7 .m., according to Ron Fisher, the president of the Flanders Riverhead and Northampton Community Association.
The meeting will take place at the David Crohan Community Center in Flanders, and was rescheduled because the community center wasn’t available Monday, Mr. Fisher said.
Among the subjects Mr. Skrynecki plans to discuss are the department’s immigration policy and a type of police work called “intelligence-led policing,” Mr. Fisher said.
Mr. Skrynecki’s start date at town police chief also has been pushed back to mid-April, town officials said.
He was previoulsly scheduled to formally take over as chief on Friday, but asked that the date be pushed to mid-April. He was hired by the Town Board in October to replace retiring Chief Robert Pearce and originally planed to start his new role in January.
Since Jan. 16, Mr. Skrynecki had been working as a consultant for an amount not to exceed $10,000 through March 16. The Town Board has yet to approve a resolution regarding salary for the additional month.
The delay reportedly allowed him to collect several weeks of accrued vacation time from his tenure with the Nassau County Police, according to 27east.com, where he had served as chief of department since 2010. Mr. Skrynecki began his career with the NCPD in 1974.
