Joseph J. Sullivan

Former Wading River resident Joseph J. Sullivan, 72, of Dunedin, Fla., died March 17 after a brief illness.

The son of Margaret (Kyle) and Eugene Sullivan, he was born April 11, 1944, in Bayside.

Mr. Sullivan is remembered in Wading River as a businessman, having owned River Road Service Station and later, Judges Hotel. He was a licensed captain and worked making yacht deliveries along the East Coast.

Mr. Sullivan captained his own yacht, the “Barefoot Peddler,” eventually making his way to his home in Dunedin. Once in Dunedin, he worked as a car salesman at Fitzgerald Auto Mall.

He is survived by his son, James, of Montauk; his companion, Beverly Otto; two brothers, Timothy, of Pickens, S.C. and Eugene of Montana City, Mont., along with two nephews, two nieces and one cousin.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
