Calverton man gets six-year sentence for apartment complex shooting

A Calverton man was sentenced Wednesday to six years in state prison in connection with a shooting at a Calverton apartment complex last July that left two men wounded, according to the Suffolk County district attorney’s office.

Demetris Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault last month during an appearance in Suffolk County criminal court.

He will serve the sentence, issued by State Supreme Court Judge John Collins, at an upstate correctional facility, according a district attorney spokesman. The sentence includes two-and-a-half years of supervision post release, the spokesman said.

Mr. Brown was arrested July 14, 2016, nine days after an early morning shooting at Hill Circle in Calverton that sent one 35-year-old man who was hit in the chest, abdomen and wrist to Stony Brook University Hospital via helicopter, according to police. A 22-year-old man shot in the abdomen was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center and later transferred to a hospital in Bay Shore, police said.

Mr. Brown’s attorney was not immediately available for comment on Wednesday.
