Riverhead Blotter: Man crashes car while driving high on drugs — again

A man who pleaded guilty last year to driving while ability impaired by drugs after hitting a police car was arrested on a felony charge Sunday after driving high on drugs and crashing his vehicle on West Main Street, Riverhead police said.

Jeremy Rosendahl, 37, was driving a 2015 Kia Soul around 4:30 p.m. when the crash occurred, police said.

He was charged with felony DWAI drugs and his vehicle was impounded, the report states.

Police confirmed this is Mr. Rosendahl’s second DWAI offense. The first occurred March 2, 2016, when he was charged with DWAI after his vehicle crashed into a police car and he was treated at the scene with an opioid overdose reversal drug, according to a previous report.

In May, Mr. Rosendahl pleaded guilty before Riverhead Town Justice Lori Hulse to DWAI drugs, possession of a hypodermic instrument and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was sentenced to six months in jail.

• A man was arrested on a petit larceny charge at Best Buy on Route 58 in Riverhead last Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Wilmer Flores-Vasquez, 26, reportedly concealed two Apple TVs and numerous other items in a handbag and a baby stroller after removing security devices from the merchandise, valued at nearly $450, police said.

He was charged with petit larceny and possessing burglary tools, both misdemeanors, officials said.

• A woman was charged with stealing merchandise Friday from BJ’s on Route 58 in Riverhead, police said.

Karen Latney, 34, was found in the parking lot at around 8:30 p.m. with $80 worth of stolen items, the report states. She was charged with misdemeanor petit larceny, officials said.

• Eddie Perry, 30, was arrested last Tuesday around 12:30 a.m. and charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, at the Empire Gas Station on Route 58 in Riverhead, a report states.

• A Cablevision box valued at $180 was reported stolen Friday afternoon from a home on Osborn Avenue in Riverhead, police said.

• A mailbox on Inverness Court in Wading River valued at $200 was reported damaged Sunday morning, officials said.

• Ten pairs of leggings were reported stolen from DKNY at Tanger Outlets in Riverhead around 11:30 a.m. last Thursday, police said.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
