Viola Rose Newton of Riverhead died March 22 at Acadia Center in Riverhead. She was 86.
She was born Jan. 31, 1931, in Huntington.
Ms. Newton worked as a receptionist for Acadia Center. She was a member of the Twin Forks Red Hat Society.
Family members said she loved to go to Friendly’s, enjoyed plays and cabaret shows and loved to dress up for the holidays.
Predeceased by her husband, Thomas, in 1997 and her daughter, Beverly Moore, Ms. Newton is survived by her son-in-law, David Moore of Central Islip; her special friend, Juanita Henderson; and one grandchild.
The family received visitors March 26 at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service took place March 27 at Calverton National Cemetery.
