Robert Obie Jr.

Former Riverhead resident Robert Obie Jr. passed away after a brief illness on Feb. 28, 2017, in Wake Forest, N.C.

Robert was born Nov. 16, 1951, to Robert Obie Sr. and Dorothy Brown. He was the oldest of five children and was predeceased by his grandmother Willa Mae Obie and his sister Cynthia.

Robert, who was fondly known as “Obie,” attended Riverhead High School and enlisted in the United States Army after graduation. He married Lyle Horsey in 1985 and relocated to North Carolina shortly thereafter.

“Obie” was a hardworking man and in his younger days enjoyed car racing with his friends. He was employed as a tractor-trailer truck driver for over 30 years. His dedicated his life to God, his wife, his family and those who loved him. He was an active member of the Kingdom Family International Church, where a memorial service was held for him in Wake Forest.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Lyle; his father, Robert Obie Sr. (Liz); his mother, Dorothy Brown; his sisters Karen, Anita and Patricia; his children, Robert III, Dorothy, Christina, Brittany (Brandon) and Daryl; five grandchildren; and several cousins, aunts and uncles
