Jo-Anne J. Cain

Jo-Anne J. Cain passed away peacefully at home April 8, 2017, after being diagnosed with colon cancer in 2012.

She was born March 9, 1943, in Detroit, Mich., to J. Ralph and Anne Pion. After high school, she joined a convent, Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and attended Mary Grove College.

Jo-Anne went on to teach in Detroit and Chicago inner city schools. After meeting her husband and moving to Riverhead, she became very involved with St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church. For over 40 years, she volunteered in the parish for song and ministering to the sick and homebound and volunteered at the Riverhead Nursing Home. She was a recipient of the Saint Agnes Medal of Service award from the Diocese of Rockville Centre in 2010.

Jo-Anne is survived by her husband, Jim, and daughter, Johanna.

The family received visitors April 10 at Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home (tuthillfh.com) in Riverhead. A funeral Mass was celebrated April 11 at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Riverhead.
