Cops: One man arrested after armed robbery in Riverhead

Two men armed with a knife and sword robbed a victim of a backpack in Riverhead Monday afternoon, Riverhead Town police said.

Police responded at about 2:21 p.m. to Sweezy Avenue and one of the suspects was located after a search, police said. Eddy Rodriguez, 27, of Riverhead was identified by the suspect and arrested and charged with first-degree robbery, police said.

The robbery occurred in a wooded area north of the railroad tracks just west of Osborn Avenue, police said.

Mr. Rodriguez was transported to police headquarters to be processed. Anyone with information regarding the robbery are asked to contact police at 631-727-4500, ext. 328.
