Playoff brackets unveiled for spring sports teams

The Shoreham-Wading River baseball team, the top ranked Class A team in the state, will open the playoffs Tuesday at home against Harborfields.

Section XI unveiled the playoff brackets Friday for baseball, softball, boys lacrosse and girls lacrosse. Shoreham teams are represented in all four sports.

The baseball team, with a 19-1 record, will open as the No. 1 seed and will play the No. 8 Tornadoes at Kevin Williams Memorial Field. The tournament is double elimination until the best-of-three county championship series. The Wildcats will play again Wednesday either in the winner’s or loser’s bracket.

The Shoreham softball team will open as the No. 2 seed in Class A and play at home Wednesday against No. 7 Comsewogue. The softball bracket is double elimination and there’s no series in the finals. The Wildcats won the League IX title with a 16-2 record.

The Bishop McGann-Mercy softball team was seeded No. 3 in Class C and will play at No. 2 Center Moriches May 19. The winner advances to play at No. 1 Babylon. The tournament is also double elimination.

In girls lacrosse, Shoreham was seeded No. 3 in Class C and will play at home May 23 against No. 6 Miller Place. The Wildcats finished in a three-way tie for the Division III league title with an 11-1 league record. The Wildcats were 12-2 overall. Riverhead clinched its first playoff berth and earned the No. 7 seed in Class A. The Blue Waves will play Wednesday at home against Huntington.

In boys lacrosse, Shoreham is the No. 1 seed in Class C and will await the winner of Mount Sinai-Sayville for a semifinal matchup on May 26. The Riverhead Blue Waves are the No. 8 seed in Class A and will play at home Tuesday against No. 9 Northport. The winner advances to play at top-seeded Ward Melville May 19.
