Planned Parenthood reopens in Riverhead

A new Planned Parenthood in Riverhead is now open, just down the road from its former location on East Main Street.

The building the Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic Riverhead Health Center previously occupied changed hands in 2015, and the new owner said PPHP’s lease would not be renewed when it expired in September 2016. But they were determined to stay in Riverhead.

“We had many options in locations that we had to select from and narrowed the decision to a list of three and felt, based upon the needs of the patients, that we selected the best location of the all the sites we considered,” said PPHP president and CEO Vincent Russell.

“Our new health center is state-of-the-art and was built to meet the needs of the patients and staff,” Mr. Russell added in an email. “We are excited about our new center and believe it is very welcoming and will better meet the needs of our patients.”

PPHP operates 10 health centers, five of them in Suffolk County.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place Friday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m. to celebrate the new location at 877 East Main St. Mr. Russell and other staff will be in attendance.

Adults and teens can call 800-230-PLAN or visit www.pphp.org to schedule an appointment.
