A motorcyclist was arrested on a drunken driving charge Monday night after hitting a pedestrian in the crosswalk at West Main Street and Griffing Avenue in Riverhead, according to a police press release.

Clarence Trent, 44, of Mastic was driving a 2004 Kawasaki motorcycle shortly before 8:20 p.m. when he crashed into Jacinto Anastacio Damian-Pu, 35, of Flanders, police said.

Mr. Damian-Pu suffered “serious injuries” and was treated at the scene by the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps, officials said. He was later airlifted to Stony Brook Medical Center “for treatment of non-life threatening injuries,” the release states.

Mr. Trent was charged with driving while intoxicated and held for an arraignment, police said.

No other details about the investigation were available.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Riverhead Town Police Department at 631-727-4500. All calls will remain confidential, officials said.
