Alexander Wacik

Alexander “Dzi Dzi” Wacik, 92, of Riverhead died Sept. 6 at Peconic Bay Medical Center Skilled Nursing Facility in Riverhead.

The son of Mary (Schwonick) and Michael Wacik, he was born May 11, 1925, in the Bronx. He graduated high school and attended college.

Mr. Wacik served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946, achieving the rank of radarman second class.

He worked for the Nassau County Police Department in Mineola, as a senior EMT.

Predeceased by his wife, Irene, in 2012 and his daughter, Susan Schuchardt in 2001, Mr. Wacik is survived by his sons, Alexander (Annmarie) and Michael (Laura); his sister, Helen Szelwach; his grandchildren, Stephanie, Michelle, Sarah, Jessica, Christen, Eric and Ravan and great-grandchildren Claire, Charlie Alana and Monroe.

The family received visitors Sept. 10 at Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service took place Sept. 11 at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, officiated by Father Bohdan Hedz. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
