Riverhead woman arrested for stealing $160K from employer

A Riverhead woman was arrested by Quogue Village Police for allegedly stealing $160,000 from her employer.

Heather C. Stokes, 44, who worked as a bookkeeper at East End Sanitation in Quogue, stole the money through fraudulent checks, credit card and debit card purchases over a few years, according to police.

An 11-month investigation by the Quogue Village Police and Suffolk County District Attorney’s office ensued, and eventually Ms. Stokes was arrested Monday morning at the East End Sanitation’s Jessup Avenue office.

Ms. Stokes was charged with second-degree grand larceny, first-degree identity theft, second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and attempted petit larceny, officials said.

She was arraigned in Quogue Justice Court and held on $25,000 cash or $75,000 bond, officials said.
