Riverhead man attempting to cross Route 58 struck by minivan

A Riverhead man suffered an apparent head injury Friday evening after he was struck by a minivan while crossing Route 58 in Riverhead, town police said. 

Marek Kolota, 48, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of what police described as “serious, but not life threatening” injuries following the 7:30 p.m. crash.

Police said Kolota had been attempting to cross to the south side of Route 58 on foot just east of Northville Turnpike near McDonald’s when he was struck by a 2007 Honda Odyssey driven east by Juan Zambrano, 53, of Flanders.

Mr. Zambrano remained on the scene and no charges have been filed in relation to the crash.
