Popeyes receives final approval for Riverhead location

A plan to build a Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen on Route 58 received final site plan approval from the Riverhead Town Planning Board Thursday night.

The 2,265-square-foot restaurant is planned for the north side of Route 58, just east of Malvese Equipment, on an undeveloped one-acre lot.

The Planning Board voted 4-0 to approve the site plan. One member was absent.

There was no opposition to the proposal at a May 2017 public hearing either, although there were no speakers in favor, either, except for the applicant.

The site is not within the Riverhead Sewer District, but the Suffolk County Health Department is allowing it to have a conventional sanitary system with leaching galleries, Jack Rosebury, the architect on the project, said last year.

Popeyes specializes in spicy chicken and has more than 2,000 locations around the world, with Shirley and Patchogue locations currently the closest to Riverhead.
