Cigarettes swiped in Riverhead gas station burglary

Riverhead Town police are investigating a burglary at the Empire Gas Station that occurred overnight. 

A police unit on patrol discovered a shattered front window at the gas station’s convenience store at 640 Old Country Road on Thursday just before 2 a.m. The officer found cigarettes had been taken from within the store. Police did not say how many cigarette packs or cartons were taken.

Additional police units were called to the scene to assist in the investigation, including a Riverhead K9 unit to track the burglar’s path.

Detectives are continuing the investigation.
