Cops: Wading River resident pointed loaded shotgun at neighbor

A resident of the Ramblewood Mobile Home Park in Wading River reported that a neighbor pointed a shotgun at her and threatened to shoot her and her dog early Wednesday morning, according to Riverhead Town police.

Officers investigated and found Iris D. Catana, 63, was in possession of a loaded double-barrel 12-gauge shotgun. Ms. Catana was arrested and charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree menacing, both misdemeanors.

The incident was reported at about 8:15 a.m. and Ms. Catana was processed after the arrest for arraignment. She was held on $3,000 cash bail or $6,000 bond and an order of protection was filed.

An attorney representing Ms. Catana in court, Brian Murphy, said she is a resident of Minnesota and has been in Wading River for the past two months to settle her mother’s estate.

She was charged with a felony due to a DWI conviction in 1983, Mr. Murphy said. She also has a pending aggravated DWI in Riverhead from January. She also had an unspecified conviction in 1971.

She is due back in court Tuesday.
