William J. Cremers

Longtime Mattituck resident William J. Cremers passed away May 16, 2018.

He was the loving husband of Anne and the loving father of Marilyn and son-in-law, John, and Janet E. Cremers, who predeceased him.

He grew up in Astoria, and served in the Korean War for three years. His later accomplishments in life on the North Fork were as director of North Fork Animal Welfare League and as a director of Southold 2000. He also served in many civic positions: Southold Town Planning Board, Suffolk County Planning Commission, Southold Affordable Housing Committee, Southold Police Advisory Committee and Southold Town Management Task Force. He was also a member of American Legion Post 803 in Southold.

After retiring from Verizon, Bill’s ultimate goal in life was to preserve what he loved about the beauty of the North Fork.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated May 21 at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in Cutchogue, officiated by Father Mariusz Gorazd. Interment, with U.S. Navy Honors, followed at Calverton National Cemetery.
