Cops: Calverton woman arrested for identity theft

A Calverton woman falsely used the identity of an East Hampton woman to gain employment for the past three years at North Fork Nursery in Jamesport, according to Riverhead Town police.

Ana P. Gomez Sanchez, 21, was arrested Wednesday for first-degree identity theft, police said. An investigation started when the 60-year-old East Hampton woman received notices of past due payments from the I.R.S. for income she had reportedly failed to report from the nursery, police said.

Ms. Gomez Sanchez was arraigned Thursday on the felony charge and posted $1,000 bail. She is due back in court Sept. 10. Additional details were not immediately available.

A representative from the nursery was unavailable to comment Thursday afternoon.
