Raymond J. Edwards

Riverhead resident Raymond J. Edwards died Dec. 11 at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore. He was 78.

He was born Aug. 12, 1940, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was married to Ruby (Deane) Edwards. Mr. Edwards worked as a salesman for Gould Paper Co. in New York City.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Riverhead and family members said he enjoyed computers and traveling.

Mr. Edwards is survived by his wife, Ruby; his daughter, Sheila, of Georgia; his son, Christopher, of Maryland; eight stepchildren: Walter Gilbert of Riverhead, Ricky and Janice Gilbert of Georgia, Nadine Parrish of Nevada, Dolores Langhorne of Riverhead, Dennis Gilbert of California, Shirlene Lunt of Virginia and Diane Gilbert of Rocky Point; his sister, Gwendolyn Leach of New Jersey; his brother, Leo, of Manhattan; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at Mclaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. Cremation will be private.
