Mary L. Rutley-Thompson

Mary L. Rutley-Thompson of Riverhead died May 17 at the age of 80.

She was born in Georgia Aug. 7, 1931, to Susie Mae Tolbert and Evans Booker.

Ms. Rutley-Thompson worked on many farms in Riverhead.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Leonard Rutley, in 1970, and by her second husband, Mr. Thompson, and her daughter Cynthia. She is survived by 14 children: Joey Booker of Massachusetts; James Jones, Louise Allen, Bessie Gardner, Mae L. Jayne, John William Jones, Marie Johnson, Billy Jones, Patricia Hill, Roger Jones, Willie Jones, Leonard Jones and Ralph Jones, all of New York; and Carl Kenderick. Also surviving are her sisters, Julia Mae Williams of Florida, Rosetta Miller and Mary Booker, both of New Jersey, Margaret Mincey of Virginia and Martha Brown of New York, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ms. Rutley-Thompson was also predeceased by three sisters and five brothers.

Visiting hours will take place Thursday, May 24, from 1 to 3 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead. A service will be held there tomorrow, Friday, May 25, at 10 a.m., the Rev. Richard Jackson III officiating. Interment will be at Calverton National Cemetery.
