Robert Lee Singleton Jr.

Robert Lee Singleton Jr. of Riverhead, known as “Peewee,” died July 11 at the age of 55.

Born Feb. 18, 1957, in Brooklyn to Classie and Robert Singleton Sr., he was educated in the New York City school system, then served in the U.S. Army for six years. He played sports for the Army and continued to play throughout his life. He moved to Riverhead to be with his fiancée, Susan, whom he later married.

Mr. Singleton worked for 25 years for Aid to the Developmentally Disabled Inc. and was also a security guard at Riverhead High School. Family members said he was quiet and easy-going, with a gentle heart and a great sense of humor. He loved to cook and enjoyed old Western movies, watching sports on television and reading comic books, they said.

He is survived by his wife; his children, Sirena, Robert III and Russell; his mother; his sisters, Barbara, Robin, Sandra, Shirley and Beverly; his brothers, Albert, Ronald and Derek; and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by one grandchild.

Arrangements were handled by Seay Memorial Chapel in Riverhead. A service was held July 17 at Galilee Church of God in Christ in Riverhead, Dr. Byron Preston officiating. Cremation was private.
