Richard F. Gallagher

Richard F. Gallagher of Jamesport died at Good Shepherd Hospice in Port Jefferson on Aug. 1, 2012. He was 73 years old.

He was born in Long Island City (Queens) on Oct. 26, 1938, to Joseph P. and Marian (née Keehn) Gallagher and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1958 to 1961.

After his honorable discharge, he began a career with Allstate in Bay Shore that lasted 33 years.

Forty-nine years ago he married Carol Tomasello at Most Precious Blood R.C. Church in Astoria. Formerly of Farmingville, they moved to Jamesport in 2001.

Dick enjoyed golf and was a fan of the Yankees, Rangers and Giants.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; two daughters, Corinne Telesca of Ridge and Carolyn Gallagher of Jamesport; two siblings, Joseph P. Gallagher of Jamesport and Barbara Anastasi of Florida; three grandchildren, Jessica Coleman, Samantha Telesca and Madison Telesca; and a great-granddaughter, Mollie Morales.

The family received friends at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck. Interment, with U.S. Marine Corps honors, was at Calverton National Cemetery.
