The Long Island Sports Park was aglow during the opening night of the inaugural Riverhead Holiday Light Show Friday.
The drive-through light show — billed as the largest in Suffolk County — features about two miles of large illuminated displays such as a snowflake tunnel and an ice palace. The displays are also synchronized to music on the radio. READ
Local veteran’s organizations, auxiliary groups, Riverhead Scouts Pack 242 and Riverhead Town officials joined together Sunday in remembrance of Veterans Day. The ceremony took on added meaning as Nov. 11, 2018, marked the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. READ
The weather gave organizers of the 2018 Halloween Festival a scare, causing the annual parade to be rescheduled to Sunday, instead of Saturday as originally planned.
Saturday’s nor’easter, which flooded parts of downtown Riverhead, also cancelled the coffin races, but didn’t stop hundreds from attending the postponed parade Sunday. READ

Show times are set for 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 13, 14 and 15, and 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16. READ
Hundreds gathered Sunday in downtown Riverhead to watch paddlers compete against each other in the Riverhead Cardboard Boat Race on the Peconic Riverfront.
Due to the threat of rain the event was rescheduled from August 11.
The popular event was organized by the Riverhead Business Improvement District.
