Riverhead Supervisor Sean Walter has pledged support of an effort to create high-tech jobs on Long Island, calling on officials to keep in mind the town’s languishing Enterprise Park at Calverton as a potential host site for such efforts, Newsday.com reports.

Mr. Walter’s pledge came during an announcement by U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer at Stony Brook University Monday morning of an initiative to build a thriving biotechnical and smart energy job force on Long Island.

“We’re done with the ski mountains and the drag strips,” Mr. Walter said of past unsuccessful efforts to develop the town-owned former Grumman plant property in Calverton. “It’s time to get serious.”
