Barbara J. Thomas of Riverhead died at her home April 24. She was 66.
She was born May 5, 1947, in Glen Cove to Dorothy (Black) and George W. Thomas and graduated from Glen Cove High School and Claremont Secretarial School (Berkley). Ms. Thomas moved to Riverhead in 1966.
She worked as an office administrator for Suffolk County in Riverhead. She retired after 37 years.
Family members said prior to retiring she loved traveling the world and enjoyed making jewelry with the “beaders,” which she continued after retiring.
Ms. Thomas is survived by her twin sister, Bette J. Dick and her brother, George W. “Bill” Thomas of Cape Coral, Fla., as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family will receive visitors Saturday, May 3, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead, with a funeral service taking place at 2 p.m. Interment will take place at Riverhead Cemetery. Cremation was private.
Memorial donations may be made in Ms. Thomas’s memory to East End Hospice, PO Box 1048, Westhampton Beach, NY 11978 or to a charity of the donor’s choosing.
There will be a celebration of life for Helga Michel, Sunday, April 27 at 3 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Southold.
Ms. Michel died March 13 after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease.
Joan Sheehan was born Aug. 12, 1932, in New York City and is survived by her sister Betty Sheehan, who resides in Jackson Heights and their dear cat, Megan, as well as her nieces and nephews, Tom Weigel, Mary Susan Shaffer, George Locke, Monica Claire Antonie, Kevin Doherty, Kathy Mazzo and Diane Coleman and their respective children.
