I have been involved in Riverhead Little League since 1996 when I began to coach my son Anthony in t-ball. I later became League President until 2002. I took a break to coach my son’s travel team for a few years. I was soon asked to come back by the members of the Board because the league was beginning to slip a bit and I have been the President ever since. (more…)

To the editor:

The April 2 News-Review article, “Town Board looks to stymie solar district.” I was stunned by the comments made by Supervisor Sean Walter. It seems he wishes to eliminate solar farms as a permitted use in the Industrial C zone. Admittedly, I am not technically versed in zoning and uses in specific types of zoning but I do travel on Edwards Avenue often and I was so pleased to see land used for clean and renewable energy. I enthusiastically thought, good going Riverhead; for the first time you are making good use of parcels of land.  (more…)

To the editor:

I just returned from out of town and was dismayed to learn that the Riverhead High School “forum” held on March 12, 2015, regarding the decision to reduce the academic day from nine to eight periods was little more than an empty gesture on the part of the administration. A word of caution to the administration: Do not be lulled by the lower-than-expected turnout. Some of us were out of town, while many others (myself included) must work two to three jobs to support our families and pay huge tax bills.  (more…)

To the editor:

Thank you for the stories you wrote about the snow safety hazards along Route 58. I worry about my life and safety every time I need to go to the bus stop.

I was very surprised that, after property owners were fined for not shoveling the snow on the sidewalks and after the recent snowfall, the sidewalks are in worse shape and more dangerous than they were before.  (more…)

To the editor:

When the Town of Riverhead endorsed its master plan, it noted that Sound Avenue should remain a country lane with an agricultural focus. Over the past few decades that designation has been maintained and enhanced, despite numerous changes that have taken place along that northern corridor. (more…)
