Update, Wednesday, 11:10 a.m.: Stony Brook University Hospital officials confirmed Wednesday morning that Martha Garcia has died.
Original story: A pedestrian was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital after she was struck and knocked unconscious by a pickup truck in the parking lot outside the King Kullen store in Riverhead Sunday afternoon, authorities said. (more…)
The Riverhead Town Board is expected to discuss rebidding its residential garbage collection district, which has been in place since 1991. The cost of the district, currently at $274 per year for a single-family home, was reduced drastically when the town rebid the district about three years ago.

George Kurovics was proud of his military work in World War II, during which he served as a tail gunner on reconnaissance planes in the South Pacific.
“He was proud of his country just as much,” said his son, also George, in an interview Wednesday morning, a day after the 90-year-old was struck and killed on Main Road in Jamesport by an alleged drunken driver. (more…)

Tax breaks for a plan to build an apartment building in the current spot of the Long Island Science Center downtown will be the subject of a public hearing at Riverhead’s Industrial Development Agency meeting tonight.
The hearing will be held at 5 p.m. in Riverhead Town Hall. (more…)
