Update: Monwell Wright is being held on $50,000 bail, according to the justice court, after he was arraigned earlier this morning.
According to court filings, Mr. Wright stolr $85 cash and $160 in money orders from the victim, injuring his wrist and forearm in the process.
Mr. Wright is due back in court tomorrow.
Original story: A 20-year-old homeless man with an already long rap sheet was arrested Wednesday in Riverhead in connection to a June attack and robbery of a victim who had also been knocked from his wheel chair during the assault, town police said.
Monwell Wright was arrested on Railroad Avenue in Riverhead, police said, not far from where the June 2 attack occurred near the railroad tracks and Maple Avenue.
Mr. Wright was charged with second-degree robbery, criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana.
Additional suspects are still being sought, police said. (more…)
